Layne headlines POWRi Midwest Lightning Sprints at Lake Ozark Speedway
By Bob Douglas (Eldon, MO) -- The POWRi Midwest Lightning Sprints had their 1st of 6 races at the beautiful Lake Ozark Speedway for 2019. We were a support class for the World of Outlaws. The grandstands were packed with enthusiastic people looking for exciting open wheel racing. The track was in great shape but did go dry slick later. A BIG thank you goes out to our sponsors for 2019, Racin’ Boys, Oskvig Accounting and Rod End Supply.

The feature was a great race with lots of passing and speed. Brad and Bobby brought the field down for the green. Brad jumped into the lead with Jeff taking 2nd away from Bobby. Stanley, Kyle and Kenny were bunched together fighting for 4th. Bobby would get back by Jeff and give chase to Brad. Stanley and Kenny would get by Kyle and continue the battle for 4th.
Jeff would spin bringing out the caution as the cars were re aligned. Chris and Tyler Murry would get by Kyle. Stanley would make a charge on the outside of Bobby but couldn’t make the pass stick. Anthony would start to slow with a bad push and would retire to the infield and Ed had developed a miss. Jeff was starting to head back to the front. Ed would come to a stop on the track as Brad and Bobby were fighting for 1st, bringing out yellow number 2.
Kenny would try making an outside pass on Stanley on the restart, but Stan would hold off the challenge. More jockeying for position by the cars in the last half of the field. Kyle would spin bringing out another yellow. Looks like a green white checker. Bobby got the jump on the restart and would make a charge by Brad coming under him coming off of turn 2. The chase was on but Bobby would hold him off. Bobby would take the win, Brad 2nd and Stanley 3rd.
The POWRi Lighting Sprints next race is at Valley Speedway, Grain Valley, MO on May 3rd with the POWRI War Sprints and the POWRi Midgets. Make plans to come out and watch the POWRi Midwest Lightning Sprints next week squirt some dirt!!
The racing in the POWRi MLS is fiercely competitive. With motorcycle power and low cost maintenance, this is still the most economical way to go fast in a race car. These cars are 1 1/2 seconds a lap faster than an A Mod or a Late Model. New drivers/cars will be coming out each week. There are good used cars for sale. Contact the MLS for info.
